It is a bill issued by the Government of India in which only a minority of people of all religions except Muslim religion will be granted citizenship of India. The bill has been amended by the Citizenship Act 1955 which has been passed for changes.
It is set to change the Citizenship Act, 1955 through the Right to Rights Bill to open the way for granting Indian citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian minorities of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Simply put, this bill makes the way for granting citizenship of India to illegal Muslim refugees from three neighboring Muslim-majority countries of India. As far as the Citizenship Act 1955 is concerned, it states that to get citizenship in an autonomous manner, it is necessary for the applicant to remain in India for the past 12 months. At the same time, it is also necessary that 11 out of the last 14 years have been here. The 11-year qualification is being extended to 6 years through amendment. However, a specific situation is also associated with this, that the applicant belongs to the six religions and three countries mentioned above.
